Foresta Umbra
The name Foresta Umbra comes from the Italian term "ombra" which means shadow. It gets it’s name right from the characteristic darkness of the forest. Because of it’s vegetation, very typical of the forests up north, the Foresta Umbra is also called "the southern forest with northern trees". The Foresta Umbra stretches itself for 15.000 hectares and reaches an altitude of 800 meters. It has a great variety of essences and is composed by beech trees, maple trees, live oaktees, yew trees and a large diversity of splendid orchids. The Foresta Umbra is located 10 km from Vieste, and along the way it is possible to find many pic-nic areas and escursion trails.
